How to Make a Donation to The Learning
Corridor
The Learning Corridor is unlike any
other public education campus in the country. Our faculty,
classrooms, laboratories, media center, and theater have set
new standards for academic performance. And our plans for
further enhancements are equally ambitious.
We do not operate like other schools
nor are we funded like other schools. That's why we require
support. The Learning Corridor requires resources that can
only come from committed people and organizations who share
our vision and values.
Financial support will help us to
better meet the needs of our students and to secure the foothold
that the Learning Corridor has on Greater Hartford’s future.
Information on Development at
The Learning Corridor
The Development Department is the resource
development and fundraising department for The Learning Corridor.
This department’s philanthropic efforts raise funds to support
the four schools here on campus, for construction and renovation
of facilities, and for the operations of the campus. We also
raise major and planned gifts to build The Learning Corridor’s
endowment for generations to come.
The Learning Corridor encourages contributions
from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations
interested in supporting the operations and special programs
here on campus. Gifts to The Learning Corridor can be made
in a variety of ways: Honor Gifts to mark a special occasion,
Memorials, Bequests, Life Insurance, Life Income Gifts and
outright gifts through check, bank draft or securities. All
gifts are tax deductible and may be restricted by the donor
for specific purposes or given as unrestricted gifts.
Gifts of Cash
Many gifts to The Learning Corridor
are in the form of cash, through a check written by the donor
made out to The Learning Corridor. A gift of cash is fully
deductible for income tax purposes in the year of the gift
up to 50 percent of one’s adjusted gross income. If the amount
of a gift exceeds this limitation, the excess may be carried
forward for a later deduction from income for up to an additional
five years.
Gifts of Securities
One of the easiest ways to support
The Learning Corridor is through a gift of securities that
have appreciated in value. This method of giving offers two-fold
tax savings: first, the donor pays no federal or Connecticut
capital gains tax on the increase in value of the stock since
its purchase. In addition, the donor is entitled to a tax
deduction up to 30 percent of one’s adjusted gross income,
with a five-year carry forward.
Bequests
The Learning Corridor (TLC) can be
named as a beneficiary in one’s will in any one of a number
of simple ways. An outright gift of funds (either a specific
dollar amount or a percentage of one’s estate) or other property
may be designated. TLC may also be named as a “remainder”
beneficiary to receive funds only after payments to an individual
beneficiary for life. It may be helpful to know that one’s
entire will does not have to be rewritten to add a gift to
TLC. You can easily add TLC to an existing will through an
amendment called a codicil.
Memorial, Honor Gifts and Designations
You can make a difference in the lives
of others and remember someone who made a difference in your
life. Individuals to whom we would like to give special recognition
have touched all our lives at one time or another. Someone
who gave us comfort, made us laugh, shared special moments
or whom we often think about and remember.
One way to keep their memory alive
is to make a memorial or honor gift to TLC in their name,
or designate that gifts be made in memory or in honor of a
special individual.
Life Income Gifts
Through Charitable Gift Annuities and
Charitable Remainder Trusts, you may make a significant gift
to TLC, and receive income for life. With the help of your
attorney or financial planner, it is possible for you to integrate
charitable gifts into your total financial plans in very advantageous
ways advantageous to you and your family, and to the charities
that you choose to benefit.
Charitable Lead Trusts
A Charitable Lead Trust allows a donor
to transfer assets to a trustee who would make payments to
TLC for a specified number of years, after which time the
assets would pass to the donor’s children and grandchildren.
A charitable lead trust could facilitate an individual’s passing
of assets on to future generations completely free of estate
and gift taxes.
Please let me stress to you that gifts
of any size are welcome and appreciated. Thank you for your
kind consideration.
