Welcome to the Greater Hartford Academy
of the Arts, an integrated magnet arts high school that is
open through auditions to students in Greater Hartford area.
Students attend their sending school in the morning and the
Academy from 1:00 to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The
students spend 13 intensive hours per week pursuing artistic
excellence under the guidance of practicing arts professionals
who are the core faculty at the Academy.
The arts training program is designed
to prepare students to pursue post-secondary studies and professional
careers in dance, music, theater, creative writing, visual
arts, film & TV, and theater design & production. The curriculum
is professionally oriented, highly structured and academically
rigorous. An Artists-in-Residence Program brings outstanding
artists to the Academy for master classes and presentations.
These professional contacts enrich the curriculum as well
as provide a realistic perspective on artistic careers.
Performance is an integral part of
the educational experiences of students at the Academy and
numerous opportunities are provided. Open auditions are held
for all Academy productions.
